Dusky have a new four-track EP on the way

Dusky have reached a special point in their career. No longer an upcoming house duo from London but a full-on force to be reckoned with, every move they make is met with a seismic response.
After their last release, “Yoohoo,” went straight to the top of the Beatport Charts, the house world has been eagerly awaiting what Nick and Alfie have up their sleeves next. Today, the duo announced a brand new four-track EP on 17 Steps called Ordinary World.
To give fans a taste of their new work, Dusky have revealed “Jilted” off the EP in full. With a tightly-knit drum kit and a classic hoover synth, the track boasts a menacing bite. It’s easily one of their darker, more techno-favoring productions to date. Nick and Alfie described the track on SoundCloud as “one for the ravers.”
Dusky’s Ordinary World EP will be released on 17 Steps on July 31.

DETROIT POLICEMAN AT MOVEMENT IS YOUR NEW FAVORITE HYPE MAN (VIDEO)

Detroit Policeman At Movement Is Your New Favorite Hype Man
For most people, the idea of a police man at a festival or concert is usually not a sight you want to see. Even if you aren’t doing anything wrong, their presence might bother or cause concert goers to become agitated. If you have ever felt that way, this policeman atMovement Electronic Festival in Detroit will change your mind.
Officer Frederick Youngblood was obviously feeling the music during Hudson Mohawke’s set, and showed off his excitement by jumping in front of the decks and getting the crowd hyped up. Rocking a massive smile, pumped up the crowd with his arms, and even breaking down some impressive dance moves, we see that both the audience and the artists were feeling it.
Hudson Mohawke was clearly happy about the whole situation, even filming the event from his phone while his own hype man encouraged the officer’s moves. You have to respect this type of action, especially in such a volatile time of American history where tensions continue to crow between police and the public. Youngblood had this to say:
“It was just to let the crowd know we support them and love them,” Officer Youngblood later told the Detroit Free Press. “And they love us too. It’s a great thing when the community and the police come together.”

HOW FLOSSTRADAMUS UNINTENTIONALLY RUINED CARL COX’S SET AT EDC NEW YORK (VIDEO)

How Flosstradamus Unintentionally Ruined Carl Cox's Set At EDC New York (Video)
Normally you wouldn’t expect to hear the names Flosstradamus and Carl Cox in the same sentence, but in a strange series of events at EDC New York this past weekend, their sets collided in an unexpected way. In a video uploaded to YouTube during Carl Cox’s set, you start to notice random vocals appearing that are clearly not being played from that stage.
Somehow a wireless microphone on the wrong feed from Flosstradamus started infiltrating the stage Carl Cox was playing at, with words like “turn up” appearing randomly. This starts around 1:05, and initially sounds like it could be some sort of vocal sample and even timed with the lights at times (1:33). This continues though, and you can tell the audience becomes confused and starts to loose their groove.
Around 1:57 we hear “All my medical smokers, when I saw grow, you say kush,” and then “turn the fuck up” at 3:36. Carl Cox even cut the music around the 3 minute mark when the ghost MC starts chanting numbers presumably before a drop. Around 3:50 we hear “Somehow someones got onto our microphone frequency…soon as we find out who it is we can get started.”
This seemed to only last about five minutes, but you can see people leaving the area and reports from other blogs and YouTube users saying this drastically ruined their experience at Carl Cox. It’s an unlikely story and sound difficulties do happen, but it’s a shame when it affects someone’s set. You can watch the video below.

DILLON FRANCIS REVEALS HOW HE SNUCK INTO COACHELLA AS A KID (VIDEO)

Dillon Francis Reveals How He Snuck Into Coachella As A Kid (Video)
Dillon Francis of all people would have a story about sneaking into Coachella. With all of his antics and humor over the years, it only makes sense that the California native would have some crazy explanation of how him and his friends maneuvered through back entrances and over fences to get into the festival. Even more hilarious is the musician who helped him in
Like something out of a movie, apparently Grammy nominated singer Sia in a “shitty car” helped them get into the artist area, which once again could only happen to someone like Dillon. We wonder if he asked for the AUX to bump some heat or if he was too nervous. Either way, it’s a hilarious story that he explained while he recently appeared on Fuse.
The whole time you are just waiting to hear that he is lying and making the story up, but that never happens. Even better is that we get a Mario like description of what went down, which just adds to the entire sequence of events. You can watch the video, where he also speaks about his immense passion for Coachella and the Polo Grounds.

This Is Not a Music Festival; It's an Experience

There's so much more to music festivals than the music. And we're not talking about the over-priced beer or countless ounces of Purell. We're talking about the bigger picture, the greater experience, what you take with you long after the bands have left and your sunburn has faded.

We took a look at 20 million social media conversations to find the top six festivals getting the most online buzz. See what people are talking about, what they're looking forward to, and why you might want to shake up your festival lineup this year.
Electric Daisy Carnival isn't an EDM Festival, it's a Mental Escape
Electric Daisy Carnival, or EDC, is an interactive freak-fest hosted in multiple locations across the globe. This year, carnival-goers will head to Vegas, New York and the U.K. to get weird with EDM DJ sets, trance-offs, out-of-the-box art installations, over-the-top rides, and thousands of costumed characters. Dubbed "the American Ibiza," EDC is the largest EDM music and dance fest in the states, and the experience is out of this world. So it's no surprise that out of all the festivals we looked at in our 2014 Festival Trends Study, EDC has the most social media chatter around excitement for "the experience."

Think Mad Max, but replace the motorcycle gangs with troves of pasty-clad performers with pacifiers. Or imagine taking a trip to Mars, but instead of wearing a spacesuit, throw on some glow-in-the-dark face paint and an animal costume -- and never actually leave Earth. Look, we could go on and on making metaphors to try and explain it, but the truth is, EDC is so wild that words can't do it justice. If you can't make it to one of this year's blowout events to see for yourself, you can satisfy your eye-candy craving with Sundance documentary Under the Electric Sky. It might not as big of a trip as the real thing, but we can guarantee less of a hangover afterwards.
Bonnaroo isn't a Folk Rock Festival, it's an Interactive Movie Theater
Calling all film fanatics! Each year Manchester, Tennessee, welcomes tens of thousands of happy campers to Bonnaroo's Tent City to revel in four days of music, art and ... movies? Even if you're a seasoned Bonnaroovian, you may be surprised to find out the scope of the fest's cinematic offerings. Beat the Tennessee heat in an air-conditioned theater while you enjoy an impressive array of advance screenings, live readings, and quote-alongs.

This year you can check out a live reading of cult classic Super Troopers by the Broken Lizard crew, watch Oscar-winning film Birdman accompanied by a live drum score, sing along to R Kelly's narrative masterpiece Trapped in the Closet, and more. So don't forget to pack your popcorn.
Coachella isn't a Back-to-Back Music Fest, it's a Fashion Show
That outfit is so last weekend. Coachella may be one of the most famous festivals around, but it's not the music that has people talking. Since it's inception in '99, the desert oasis has become more and more focused on the who, what, and wear -- it's proximity to Hollywood amplifying the celebrity see-and-be-seen culture.

Come April, it seems like everyone with a keyboard is talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly being paraded down the Polo Field runway. Not surprisingly, Coachella blew past all the other fests we studied in fashion-focused chatter, making up 27 percent of overall online conversation. And with festival-goers consistently pushing the limits of boho costumery, from the ubiquitous floral crown to the more creativeflower beard, you fashion critics out there can always expect a good show.
Hangout isn't a Music Fest, it's a Music Paradise
As one of the most popular festivals this side of the Mississippi, Hangout is what we like to call a destination fest. Known as "the ultimate beach vacation," people from all around the country fly to the Gulf Shores of Alabama to kick off their shoes, feel the sand between their toes, and enjoy live music against the backdrop of blue waters, palm trees, and South Beach-style cabanas. Festival-goers chill in style in lounge areas complete with ping pong, beach volleyball, art installations, margarita bars, and even an ice cream truck for anyone who needs to cool off with something sweet.

But this musical oasis doesn't only attract fans. Musical talent from around the world loves a good beach party, too. Maybe that's why the majority of Hangout's online chatter is about the amazing lineup the festival has.

If you're thinking about swaying to the rhythms of Hangout Music Fest this May 15-17, check out who's playing this year, grab your tickets, and get your out-of-office email ready.
Governors Ball isn't a three-day Art and Music Fest, it's NYC's Bangin' Backyard BBQ
Chock-full of art, music, and molly-eating monsters, Governors Ball is a three-day festival in Randall's Island Park that has cemented itself into NYC's DNA. Attracting the biggest names in rock, rap, blues, and EDM, Gov Ball also attracts 45,0000 attendees daily, including heaps of high school and college kids on summer break, and tons of artsy yuppies taking a staycation, or just a really long lunch. Spittin' distance from the concrete jungle, Gov Ball takes place along the East River, between Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx, which means fans can walk, bike, shuttle, subway, drive, or even ferry to the festival gates.

While Gov Ball always brings an impressive lineup to the main stage, the festival also brings experimental art installations to the mainstream. Pair art with tunes, drinks, and lawn games, and you've got yourself a backyard BBQ with a cool cultural spin -- right in the heart of the Big Apple.
SXSW isn't a Music Festival, it's an Interactive Tech Titan
When it comes to putting on a music fest with a twist, we've got to give South by Southwest the original gangsta award. But while old-school SXSW fans came for the tunes, BBQ and a flick or two, the new crew is less connected to the music scene, and more connected to their smartPhone, tablet, and laptop screens.

Though music still takes center stage, SXSW has recently evolved into one of the biggest interactive tech conferences in the country, with tons of corporate guests sent to represent their brand, schmooze with the best in the biz, and learn about the latest tech trends. The most fascinating part of this tech revolution? In-person attendance is no longer required. That's why 29 percent of the online chatter revolved around tuning into the music online or streaming the tech talks in real time.

Swedish EDM Producer Alesso Releases Long-Awaited Debut Studio Album 'Forever'

Alesso, known for high-profile remixes, his smash hit "Heroes (We Could Be)" featuring Tove Lo and coming in at No. 15 on DJ Magazine's list of the top 100 DJs,finally debuted his long awaited studio album, "Forever." Before Ultra Music Festivalwe sat down with the Swedish electronic-dance music star to talk about the time leading up to his album's debut, his place in the electronic world and how he approached his festival sets.
What goes into your process to create a set for a large festival like Ultra?
Ultra is a big thing. It’s like the start of the new music this year. This is for all the guys in the scene. This is where you premiere your new songs, so it’s important to prepare. I prepared a set for like two weeks, I think, just because you’ve got one hour and I’ve got a lot of new music coming out, but I can’t play all of it because people also want to hear my old songs. So it’s important to find that balance, and that’s kind of hard sometimes because I’ve only got one hour. It’s just a lot of preparation with the visuals as well. I talk to my crew and that’s helping me do the show to make sure everything is spot on.
Do you have any sort of like pre-act rituals?
I never drink or anything like that.

MYSTERY ARTIST BEHIND “SLOWLY” WANTS TO GIVE YOU 2 PASSES TO EDC

Nearly a month ago, we reported on the mystery ID artist behind the track “Slowly.” Its smooth and chill style, mixing deep bass with garage influences, lent itself to dozens of guesses behind the identity of the ID artist.
Calling ID the next Zhu definitely helped create a buzz, as anonymous artists are all the rage these days. In a climate where focus is pushed more onto the music, I’m all for it. But ID wants to reveal himself or herself in the coming week – June 9th, to be exact.
But first … I want to play a game. Literally.
The team behind “Slowly” has created a word search with various producer’s names hidden within. Once you find a producer who you think might be behind ID, tweet it to @Your EDM with the hashtag #TakeMeThereSlowly.
EXAMPLE: “@YOUREDM ‘SLOWLY’ IS BY @MATZO #TAKEMETHERESLOWLY”
Play the game and tweet (details above) your guess for a chance to win 2 GA tickets to EDC Vegas. The winner will be announced on the day of the reveal, June 9th.

JAMIE XX – IN COLOUR [ALBUM REVIEW]

If you weren’t aware, the artist group known as The xx has a brilliant producer behind their soft and emotional constructions – Jamie xx.
Relegated to the background for most of his early career with the group, Jamie xx has burst forth in recent years to wild, mass acclaim. He performed at Coachella this year for a nearly packed Mojave tent and anyone who was there can tell you that his gorgeous blend of downtempo and ambient sounds made for a one-of-a-kind experience.
And now today, Jamie xx has released his debut album In Colour. While some critics have panned it as “accessible pop for the downtempo era”, others like Pitchfork gave the album glowing praise and a 9.3/10 rating. As always, music is a subjective and often divisive medium, but I find myself really loving this album.
Spanning a mere 42 minutes and 11 tracks, Jamie xx uses his skills in a band to create a complete and full-bodied musical experience. He even enlists fellow The xx bandmates on a couple tracks, “Stranger in a Room” featuresOliver Sim, and “Seesaw” and “Loud Places” feature Romy. As Pitchfork notes, Jamie “straddles the line between ‘song’ and ‘track'” in a particularly magnificent fashion.
As far as the tracks themselves, there really isn’t a single way to describe them. While most of the album carries the feeling of downtempo/ambient, tracks like “Hold Tight” and “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” vigorously fight off that label. Opening an album with such a unique and unabashed tune like “Gosh” is brave, but the progressive nature of the track and how it builds upon itself is a testament to how the entire album was constructed.
In all seriousness, this is a contender for AOTY. It’s a wondrously constructed and vastly creative album that any music fan, regardless of what your favorite genre is, should examine. And trust me on that – my first love is drum & bass.
